About this Course

The Specialist Diploma in Nursing (Diabetes Management and Education) course has been designed to provide graduates with recognised post-graduate tertiary qualification to assume the role of the Diabetes Educator effectively in the acute and community healthcare setting. Management of Diabetes (90 hrs) This module provides learners with an in-depth knowledge on the assessment and clinical management of clients with diabetes mellitus and its complications. It will focus on medical nutritional therapy, exercise, stress management, foot care, wound management and monitoring of clients. Diabetes Education (30 hrs) The module examines of the principles of teaching and learning, and their application to the educational process in diabetes education. It aims to assist learners develop specialized role in diabetes education and enhance their ability to select appropriate approaches to meet clients’ learning needs and to match the resources and requirement of various health care settings. Self-management skills will also be included. Advanced Clinical Nursing Practice in Diabetes Management and Education (80 hrs) This module provides opportunities for learners to explore, analyse and integrate theoretical knowledge into the clinical practice. Learners must be self-directed to ensure clinical objectives are achieved.
