Nitec in Services (Hair Fashion and Design)

  

About this Course

This course is endorsed by ITE and catered to participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform shampooing, hairstyling, haircutting, hair perming, and hair colouring services and are interested in joining the hairdressing industry as a hairstylist.

Course Outline

The Nitec in Services – Hair Fashion & Design course comprises 6 core modules:

Shampoo and Head Massage

  • Students are trained to provide shampooing at basin, seated shampoo, massage scalp, neck and shoulder, and blow-dry hair.

Basic Haircutting

  • Students are trained to perform basic blunt and layered haircuts.

Basic Hair Colouring

  • Students are trained to perform hair colouring (virgin hair application) and root and re-growth application.

Creative Styling

  • Students are trained to style various length of hair ranging from short to long with the use of finishing styling products and equipment such as blowdryers, flat irons and curling tongs. They are also trained to do simple updo hairstyles (hair buns and hair knots) for functions and events.

Advanced Hair Colouring

  • Students are trained to perform highlighting, lowlighting and toning of hair.

Hair Perming

  • Students are trained to perform hair perming and rebonding.

Training Hours

Classroom Duration – 720 Hours

Duration of Course

Full-Time – 9 Month x 5 Days Per Week x 4 Hours Per Day

Course Commencement Date

Courses will commence on every 1st and 15th of every month

Certificate Conferring Body

Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the NITEC in Services (Hair Fashion & Design) Certificate by Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

Foreigner’s application for jobs in Singapore is subject to the approval from the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore (MOM). MDI DOES NOT GUARANTEE any success rate of approval.

Entry Requirements

Local course participants must possess any one of the following entry requirements in order to be eligible for Nitec Examinations.

  1. Complete GCE ‘N’ level or any equivalent qualifications approved by ITE.
  2. Entry Test by ITE (Test fees are paid to ITE). Applies to course participants that do not have the above qualifications.

Other than the mentioned pre-requisites, the students should also have the following:

  • Students must be able to read and write in English or Chinese. Other cases will be considered on a case-to-case basis.
  • Students should be of a minimum of 18 years of age to be eligible for the courses.
  • For foreign students, relevant passes are required.

Graduation Requirement

Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant certificates:

  1. The award of full certification in Nitec in Services – Hair Fashion & Design is based on acquiring a minimum of 30 credits.
  2. For the overall practical assessments, they must cover at least 75% of the competencies in each module.
  3. The pass mark of a module is 50%. Candidates are required to pass all critical criteria/skills in the skills standard.
