About this Course

This course will equip participants with the essential theory, hands-on skills, and knowledge related to emergencies in the workplace. Upon the completion of this course, participants will be able to implement what they have learned when it comes to unforeseen circumstances in the workplace requiring immediate paramedical attention.

Objective

To empower participants to effectively respond to first aid emergencies in the workplace until the arrival of medical assistance.

Course Content

Module 1:Demonstrate emergency action principles

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the primary survey and secondary survey by performing the primary & secondary surveys

Module 2:Demonstrate first aid for breathing emergencies

  • Demonstrate proficiency in assessing respiration, recognising airway emergencies, and assisting with respiratory emergencies by describing the first aid measures for such emergencies

Module 3:Demonstrate CPR & AED skills

  • Apply CPR & AED skills and knowledge by demonstrating the DRSABCD sequence in correct order and by demonstrating CPR & AED 30:2 with correct chest compression landmark and correct depth

Module 4:Demonstrate first aid for unconscious casualty

  • Demonstrate proficiency in assessing and positioning the unconscious casualty by describing the first aid measures for unconscious casualties

Module 5:Demonstrate first aid for heat disorders, bites and stings

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of first aid for heat disorders, bites and stings by describing the first aid measures for such cases

Module 6:Demonstrate first aid for controlling bleeding, and first aid for wounds

  • Describe the correct first aid treatment for simple nosebleed and for hypovolemic shock. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of pressure bandages, utilising gauze squares, roller bandages and triangular slings from the first aid kit

Module 7:Demonstrate first aid for fractures and soft tissue injuries

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the application of splinting for fractures, using triangular bandages shaped into narrow or broad bandages

Module 8:Demonstrate first aid for head, spine and lower limb injuries

  • Demonstrate knowledge of first aid for head, spine and lower limb injuries by performing a log roll with 3 assistants, lifting a victim from floor to stretcher with 4 assistants, and transporting a stretchered victim with 4 assistants

Module 9:Demonstrate first aid for burns and scalds

  • Demonstrate knowledge of first aid for burns and scalds by describing the first aid treatment for such emergencies

Module 10:Demonstrate first aid for poisoning

  • Demonstrate knowledge of first aid for poisoning by describing the first aid treatment for such emergencies
